Des Plaines Man Fatally Crashes Into Niles Police Station: Cops
Police got word a car was speeding and ignoring traffic signals before a Des Plaines man crashed into the Niles police station's garage.
NILES, IL — A Des Plaines man died early Wednesday after crashing into the parking garage of the Niles Police Department, police said. Driving a Hyundai sedan at high speeds on Waukegan Road, the man struck a curb, a telephone pole and the fence at the police station before coming to a stop inside the underground police garage shortly after midnight, according to a release.
Julian H. Hernandez, 22, of the 800 block of Parkview Lane, was identified as the driver. He died at the scene, according to police.
Before the crash, Morton Grove police had gotten word of someone speeding down Waukegan Road and disregarding traffic signals.

The fatal crash and resulting power outage shut down both directions of Milwaukee Avenue Wednesday morning, according to police. Authorities re-opened the road before 9 a.m.
According to a village spokesman, backup communications and power systems had to be activated due to the downed power line.
