Dear FAIR Membership,
Find out what's happening in Niles-Morton Grovefor free with the latest updates from Patch.
Like many other property owners in Jefferson Township, I received a letter from the Cook County Assessor this week informing me that my property value had been reassessed and consequently lowered "due to the impact of increased aircraft noise from O'Hare International Airport and newly constructed runways and reconfigured flight paths."
This acknowledgement was not made in response to a single appeal made by myself but instead due to the concerted response of FAIR members as a property tax appeal campaign waged by FAIR over the last couple of years. Thanks to the numerous and consistent appeal requests made by FAIR members, at least one official government body is now on the record as agreeing with one of FAIR's basic points of contention, namely, that the increased, concentrated and sustained air traffic over certain areas of Chicagoland is destroying neighborhoods, one noisy, polluting jet engine at a time.

It is time to build on the acknowledgement from the Assessor's office.
In the coming days, you will be receiving additional emails from FAIR asking you to take action to help sustain initiatives that FAIR has successfully fought for, such as the Overnight Rotation Plan that has brought many of us better sleep and a temporary respite from the constant jet noise and its accompanying house vibrations. Please open the emails, read them, and take the requested actions.
As these property tax reduction letters show, we are powerful when we act together.
Power to the People!
