Hobby Lobby Moving Into Old Sports Authority In Niles

Craft store customers will have their pick of two big-box retailers across Dempster Street from one another starting in early 2019.

NILES, IL — A Hobby Lobby store is moving into the former Sports Authority space on Dempster Street. The Niles Journal reported construction crews are building out the space at the Super City Shopping Center, west of Harlem Avenue on the south side of Dempster.

The sporting goods store closed in 2016 after declaring bankruptcy. A Michaels store moved in mid-2018 from the south side to the north side of Dempster Street, which delineates the border between Niles and Morton Grove.

The Journal reported a buyer is also under contract to purchase the former site of Riggio's restaurant at Milwaukee Avenue and Oakton Street, which closed last year after 65 years in business. The deal is not expected to close until early 2019 and the potential buyers have not been publicly identified.
