Masked Trio Rob Niles Gas Station, Customer At Gunpoint: Police

A gunman ordered a customer who came into the Milwaukee Avenue gas station during the robbery to the ground and robbed him, police said.

NILES, IL — Three masked men robbed a gas station and an unlucky customer at gunpoint Monday in Niles, police said.

The trio entered the Shell station at 6901 N. Milwaukee Ave. shortly before 4 a.m., according to police. They were clad in black and wearing ski masks.

One of them pointed a handgun at the clerk before all three came around the counter, ordering the clerk to open the register and get down on the ground.

Two of the robbers grabbed lottery tickets, worthless when stolen, and $2,700 worth of cigarette cartons, according to Bureau Chief Robert Tornabene. Two of them then left the store.

A short time later, a customer came into the store, and the remaining robber pulled out a gun and ordered the customer to the ground. The gunman searched him and stole his iPhone before taking about $300 from the register and leaving.

The robbers fled in a dark sedan south on Milwaukee Avenue. No further descriptions were available from police, who asked anyone with information about the incident to contact the Niles police detectives at 847-588-6570.
