The Niles Arts and Culture Advisory Council held an information gathering last Wednesday at Amici's Restaurant.

NILES, IL — The Niles Arts and Culture Advisory Council hosted a Call for Artist Event at Amici’s Restaurant last week on Wednesday, March 21 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. The council gathered a large group of artists of all different artistic forms as well as cultural entities to start a conversation about encouraging and supporting arts and culture in Niles.

Over 80 people attended from Niles and surrounding suburbs including woodcarvers, wire- workers, painters, jewelry makers, sculptors, dancers, musicians, actors, quilters, photographers and graphic designers.

“It was an amazing event, with a room full of tremendous talent and passion. I am really excited about the direction we’re headed working together with the Park District, Village, library, schools, artists, and Niles community.” said Lindsay Brubaker, Council Chair.

It was an informational gathering to learn about artists and compile a database of artists and their interests. The Council also promoted the Arts Feed webpage, a site for local artists and organizations to promote their work and activities and the Arts & Culture Project application to provide an opportunity for individuals or groups to showcase their creativity and talent.

Attendees were also asked if they would participate in a Niles Art Guild, a regular group that would meet at the Niles-Maine District Library. There was an overwhelming response of people that were excited to be part of the new guild and the future of Niles.
