Niles Library Brings it Home With Sports Memorabilia Event

Free sports memorabilia appraisal at "Sox vs. Cubs: The Chicago Civil Wars" exhibit currently running at the Niles-Maine District Library.

Ever wonder what that old baseball card collection is worth? What about that Babe Ruth signed baseball given to you by Grandma? Luckily for you, the Niles-Maine District Library can help shed some light on these prized sports heirlooms.

In conjunction with the Sox vs. Cubs: The Chicago Civil Wars exhibit now showing in the Franklin Gallery, the Library welcomes Michael Osacky, vintage sports memorabilia expert and appraiser on Monday, April 9 from 7-8:30pm. During the Library’s event, Osacky will discuss his hobby and provide information on what to look for when purchasing vintage sports memorabilia. After his presentation, he will invite Patrons to share their pieces and appraise any vintage sports items from 1870-1970 for free. Patrons are asked to only bring two items for appraisal.

Thanks to his grandfather, Osacky has been an avid collector of sports items, focusing on pre-1975 baseball cards and sports memorabilia. Since his teens, Osacky has traveled the globe, trying to find that perfect pieces for his collection. As an official appraiser, he has worked with a myriad of professional sports teams including the Chicago Bulls and New York Yankees as well as renowned athletes in baseball.
