The Niles-Maine District Library staff members gave back to community with their annual Thanksgiving donation to Niles Family Services.

Staff members donated nearly 200 non-perishable goods and $740 worth of grocery store gift cards to help Niles area families enjoy a Thanksgiving meal this year. Non-perishable goods including stuffing, bread mix, mixed vegetables, sweet potatoes, and other Thanksgiving favorites were donated. All funds and goods were donated exclusively by library staff members.

“It really reflects how much the library staff cares about the community,” said Executive Director, Susan Dove Lempke. “Even through these uncertain times it brings us joy knowing that families in the community will get to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal.”

The effort started in 2011 when the Library Director at the time heard that Niles Family Services needed more goods to help feed families in the community during the holidays. Since the beginning, staff members put together Thanksgiving bags which included non-perishable goods and a $25 grocery store gift card, but plans changed this year due to the pandemic.

Niles-Maine District Library is located at 6960 Oakton Street, the northeast corner of the Oakton and Waukegan intersection.
