Niles Man Arrested for Stabbing Teen Boy in the Abdomen

The teen was taken to Lutheran General Hospital. A knife was recovered near the scene of the stabbing.

A Niles man has been arrested in connection with an Oct. 1 stabbing which left a teen boy hospitalized, police said.

Nicholas R. Seruya, 28, of the 8700 block of Shermer Road, was charged at 1:18 p.m. Oct. 2 with one felony count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and one misdemeanor count of unlawful use of a weapon, according to Niles police.

Reports state that police officers responded at 11:57 p.m. Oct. 1 to the 7000 block of West Greenleaf Avenue for a subject who had been stabbed. Officers found a 17-year-old boy from Niles on the ground with a stab wound to the stomach. Officers administered first aid until paramedics arrived. The boy was then taken to Lutheran General Hospital. A knife was recovered near the scene of the stabbing.

When police arrived at the scene a 17-year-old boy and a 28-year-old man had been rendering aid to the victim. The 17-year-old said he was going to meet the victim at his house and when he arrived he found the victim on the ground. The 28-year-old said the victim had been attacked by two or three males, police said.

Reports state that when the victim regained consciousness he identified Seruya as the one who stabbed him.

Seruya is due in court Oct. 14, police said.
