As of Wednesday, the National Weather Service was predicting a high of 82 to 89 degrees Thursday for the Chicago area, but just like last year — when storms turned deadly on the 4th of July — scattered storms are a possibility. The NWS is predicting a 30 percent chance of storms both Wednesday and Thursday nights — so keep an eye out for weather-related fireworks cancellations.

A new commission was formed in 1987 and partnered with the village in 2010. Since 2012, the commission has operated as a volunteer-run nonprofit relying on volunteers and donations.

Niles

The Niles 4th of July parade begins at 8:45 a.m. at Notre Dame College Prep at Dempster and Ozark streets and heads to Grennan Heights at 8255 Oketo Ave. The theme of the 2019 Independence Day parade is "Films in Illinois" — from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" to "Home Alone" to "The Blues Brothers" — so look for floats with film-based motifs. Parking restrictions will be in place until 2 p.m. on July 4 in the parade area. After the parade, there will be games, food, a raffle, entertainment and more at Grennan Heights.
