Niles North High School Principal to Retire
Principal Ryan McTague is leaving at the end of the school year to be the new superintendent of McHenry High School District 156.
Niles North High School Principal Ryan McTague announced in an email to students and staff this week that he would be leaving the position he’s held since 2010, reported the Chicago Tribune.
McTague joined District 219 in 2003 as a dean of students. His subsequent positions included director of deans and assistant principal of operations, and finally, principal.
In a letter to students and staff obtained from the district, McTague writes that his heart was conflicted over leaving his “Niles North family,” but was excited to take on the role of superintendent of McHenry High School District 156.

“I am deeply grateful and appreciative to the students, parents, teachers, support staff, administrators, and community members for their unwavering support and friendship. No matter where my journey in life takes me, you will always have a special place in my heart.
My greatest professional accomplishment will forever be the strong sense of community we built over the past six years and the belief that we are always stronger together – as one school – one community – one family.

Interim superintendent appointed
In the wake of McTague’s announcement, District 219 has appointed former Libertyville District 70 Superintendent Dr. Mark Friedman to serve as interim superintendent. Friedman will work through June 2016, at a pay rate of $1,400 per day.
Friedman will also assist the board of education in finding a new, permanent leader for the district.
