The first remembrance will start at 7:35 AM and will conclude 11 minutes later after our nation's flag is lowered to half-staff at 7:46 AM. This is the time (8:46 AM EST) at which five hijackers crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into floors 93 through 99 of 1 World Trade Center (North Tower). The 76 passengers and 11 crew members on board and hundreds inside the building are killed instantly. The crash severs all three emergency stairwells and traps hundreds of people above the 91st floor.
The President's Patriots' Day 2016 Proclamation ordering all flags to half-staff will be read along with text from the 911 National Memorial detailing the events leading up to 7:46 AM (8:46 AM EST).
Second Citizens Remembrance
Sunday, September 11
6:40 PM
The second remembrance will start at 6:40 PM and will include readings from the 911 National Memorial detailing the events of the day since 7:46 AM (8:46 AM EST). The second remembrance will conclude with the readings of the names of the Illinois victims of the terrorists attacks and our nation's flag returned to full-staff in accordance with the Presidential Proclamation for Patriot's Day 2016.
Those wishing to share personal stories from 9/11 may do so after the readings of the victim's names and before our nation's flag is returned to full-staff. All are invited to share their personal stories as they feel comfortable.
Sundown is set for 7:06 PM. This is the estimated end time for the second citizens remembrance but we will go as long as needed to include all personal stories.
