Tam O’Shanter Golf Course Ranked No. 1 Among 9-Hole Courses
Chicago Golf Report ranked the Niles Park District course as the best in the metro area.

NILES, IL — The prestigious Chicago Golf Report released its rankings of the top ten 9-hole golf course in the Chicagoland metro region, and Niles Park District’s Tam O’Shanter golf course was the top-rated.
The report said that the course, along with its along with its original owner George S. May, “had more influence in shaping the future of golf tournaments, golf viewing, and golf play in Chicago than any other course in our area.”

“We have always been proud of our course,” said Tom Elenz, Executive Director for the Niles Park District. “It’s a beautiful course that’s fun to play, and we are honored to be selected as best among so many other great courses.”
The report noted that in May 2018 the park district commissioned “a renovation project completed by Lohmann Quitno Golf Course Architects and Wadsworth Golf Construction Company thus minimizing flooding problems and creating superb playing conditions”.

The report, released on May 1, 2020, analyzed 38 of the top 9-hole courses in the metro area, consisting of Cook plus the eight surrounding counties. Among the critical factors in their rankings were: “course conditioning, playability, layout, historical significance, amenities, and importance to the surrounding locale.”
The course is open for play, under new State guidelines, which are posted on the website (www.golftam.com). Those guidelines restrict the number of players, the time between rounds, and ban the use of carts.
