Thanksgiving with the Troops: How You Can Volunteer this Thursday

Local American Legion Post to once again host sailors from Great Lakes Naval Base for a Thanksgiving meal

Greetings My Neighbors!

We are now just a few days away from when you can volunteer a couple hours of your time on Thanksgiving to spend some time right here, locally, with our Troops. My American Legion Post #134 (6144 W. Dempster, Morton Grove) is once again hosting its 12th Annual "Adopt-a-Sailor" Day. It's easy and it's fun and it's a great way to give to those who cannot go home for Thanksgiving. Many of our very own neighbors as well as our local Scout units have helped out over the years. You can join these ranks!

American Legion Post #134 will host 50 recruits from Great Lakes. They should arrive by 8:30 a.m. by bus. They will be greeted by Legion members, village officials, friends, volunteers, and neighbors that wish to greet them and thank them for their service. They will be served a full Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. The day will conclude in the late afternoon.

Entertainment will be available along with nationwide long distance and international phone service all day long, compliments of AT&T. Computers will also be available. They will have the opportunity to talk and email their loved ones throughout the day. After graduation many of these young men and women will be sent into harms way. The day’s events will be filmed and a DVD will be sent to their families.
