Veterans' Day 2017 - Four Steps We Can All Take To Celebrate It Together....

Greetings My Neighbors,
Saturday, November 11 is Veterans' Day. On this very special US holiday, we celebrate all of our living veterans who have served or are serving in any branch of the military, active, reserve or National Guard, peacetime or wartime. We also take time to remember our POWs and MIAs in active hope of their imminent return to their loved ones and our nation's soil.
Everybody can take part in Veterans' Day activities. Here's how in four steps....

1) Thank a veteran. If you do not know a veteran, head out to one of the many Veterans' Day ceremonies as you will surely be able to thank a veteran there.
2) Support a veteran. You can make a monetary donation to a wide variety of veterans' organizations. A good local organization right here in the Northwest Area is Chicago Veterans. chicagovets.org. You can also Google for other agencies to support.

3) Remember a veteran. Because Veterans' Day is about those veterans still living, we read the names of our POWs and MIAs. You can do that by going to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency here: dpaa.mil. Once there, select "Our Missing" and choose the list by war/conflict and then the state. You can also search the list by name as well as select names by branch of service. Take a few minutes to read the names.
4) Join with veterans. There are numerous Veterans' Day ceremonies going on. Give it a search for one near you. All are welcome to attend the annual Edgebrook Community Association Veterans' Day Flag Ceremony on Saturday, November 11 at 4 PM at Kinzua, Hiawatha and Lehigh. For the first time, we'll be raising the POW/MIA flag over Edgebrook. Check social media and the ECA website for more information as it comes out.
That's it. I hope you are able to join in Veterans' Day 2017. Questions? Please ask...Jac Charlier at jac.charlier@gmail.com.
