NORTHBROOK, IL — Before your head to a 4th of July parade or fireworks, be sure to pack an umbrella/a little extra sunscreen before you go.

As we approach the holiday, your Independence Day festivities are no doubt confirmed. But, as most of us know, Mother Nature is fickle and could always step in and ruin the best-laid plans with a trifecta of rain, storms and cloudy skies.

What: Liberty Loop 5K Race and Liberty Lap Fun Run When: 7:30 a.m. Saturday, July 3 (Liberty Loop) and 9 a.m. (Liberty Lap Fun Run) Where: Techny Prairie Parks and Fields, 1750 Techny Road, Northbrook Details: Enjoy a scenic run or walk on a certified 5K course. Winners receive medals, and pre-registered participants receive a dry-fit T-shirt and gift bag. Children five and under can run/walk at no charge but need to be preregistered.
