6-Month Dundee Road Closure Set To Begin

Dundee Road in Northbrook is due to be closed to through traffic from April 15 to Oct. 31, IDOT announced.

NORTHBROOK, IL — Dundee Road between Waukegan Road and Skokie Boulevard will be closed to non-local traffic starting Monday, April 15, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The Dundee Road culvert project is expected to keep the road closed until about the end of October. In the meantime, traffic will be detoured north along Skokie Boulevard and to Lake Cook Road.

Dundee Road will be closed completely on both sides of Lee Road, from Shermer Road to Bittersweet Drive. One lane of Lee Road will remain open in both directions, and access will be maintained from Shermer Road, according to IDOT.

The project will replace the culvert and rebuild the intersection at Dundee and Lee roads. Built in 1938, he culvert has "reached the end of its useful life," according to the village. Replacing it and the roadway will require the relocation of a pair of the village's water mains and a sanitary sewer line located north and west of the intersection.

The village is covering $680,000 of the $6.5 million project, according to IDOT and village officials.

Drivers should expect possible delays and allow for extra time to travel through the area. IDOT reminded motorist to pay close attention to flaggers and be alert for workers and equipment.
