Amtrak Train Fatally Strikes Pedestrian In Northbrook
An outbound train hit a person on the tracks Wednesday near the Shermer Road crossing, leading to major Amtrak and Metra delays.
NORTHBROOK, IL — An outbound train fatally struck a pedestrian Wednesday in Northbrook, halting rail travel in both direction and closing the crossing at Shermer Road, authorities said.
Around 1:40 p.m., a person on the tracks was struck around 1:40 p.m. near the station by outbound Amtrak Hiawatha Line train No. 335, which was scheduled to depart Chicago at 1:05 p.m. and had been scheduled to arrive in Milwaukee at 2:34 p.m.
Amtrak service and Metra service on the Milwaukee District North line is expected to be heavily delayed, according to spokespeople for both railways. The railroad crossing was closed for just over an hour, according to village officials. There were no injuries aboard the train, according to an Amtrak spokesperson.

The person struck was later identified as Suzanne A. McDevitt, 48, of Northbrook, and her death was ruled a suicide, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
