Letter: Former Trustee Confident In Northbrook Amid Coronavirus

Former Northbrook Village Trustee Jason Han says he knows the village has prepared for moments of emergency like the COVID-19 pandemic.

It’s been three months since I stepped down as a Northbrook Village Trustee, and three weeks since I’ve self-quarantined in my DuPage County home. I haven’t left the house other than to pick up groceries. Yet during my time under self-quarantine, it feels like I never left the Village of Northbrook. Almost every day I’m receiving text alerts, emails, and even Facebook notifications about what the Village has been doing to keep its residents safe.

“You don’t know what you have until it’s gone” feels truer now more than ever. I love my new community, but the diligence of the Village of Northbrook continues to remind me of what I left behind. When I was a Trustee, I attended table-top emergency exercises with the Fire, Police, and Public Works Departments, Administrative Staff, my fellow Trustees and President Sandy Frum. I know the Village has prepared for emergency moments like this.

We’ve never experienced a crisis like this COVID-19 pandemic. But if you feel safe and secure at home, know that’s due in no small part to your local government. Northbrook will never be far from my thoughts; and these days that’s because it’s constantly telling me what I need to know, even though I’m no longer there.
