Northbrook $4.3 Million Home Sale Sets Town Record

NORTHBROOK, IL — There's a new record for most expensive home ever sold in Northbrook. The property at 1812 Braeside Lane was sold for more $4,325,000 on Feb. 17.

Set on a 2.5 acre parcel of land, the 16,671-square-foot house was built in 1998 and designed by Ron Firestone.

The Realtor.com listing described features including:

• Lower level with 11 seat movie theater, fireplace, wet bar, fitness center, massage room, game room and sauna with separate locker rooms.
• 5 car attached garages are heated.
• Outdoor sports court, pool with Jacuzzi and 5,000 square foot patio and fenced rear yard.
• Travertine heated marble floors throughout the first floor
• Wide plank hickory in the De Giulio kitchen, breakfast room and family room with wet bar.
• Master Retreat plus 5 en suites.
• 6 fireplaces, 4 staircases and an Otis elevator servicing all 3 levels.

Cook County tax records name the seller as art collector M. Christine Schwartz, and Ted Schwartz (head of a call-center firm who was on the Forbes 400 list in the 1990s) paid $827,500 for the lot back in 1994, according to Cook County records seen by Crain's Chicago Business.

The house was first listed for $5,885,000 last spring, before two reductions in price and eventually closing for 26.5 percent less than its first asking price, according to the listing.

The previous record high price for a Northbrook property was the former home of NFL player Jim McMahon, which sold for a price of $4.25 million in 2013, according to Crain's.
