Northbrook Bluehawks Players Deliver Meals to Healthcare Heroes
Northbrook Jr. Bluehawks & Bluehawks hockey players raised $1,450 to send meals to doctors and nurses treating COVID-19
Members of the Northbrook Jr. Bluehawks and Northbrook Bluehawks youth hockey clubs raised $1,450 this spring to buy meals for area doctors and nurses treating COVID-19 patients
This past weekend meals prepared by Grill House in Northbrook were delivered in conjunction with GiveInKind to emergency room staff at Glenbrook Hospital, and meals from Soul & Smoke in Evanston were delivered to St. Bernard Hospital.
The clubs' original goal was to raise $1,000 but they wound up far exceeding that. With the extra funds they collected the clubs made a donation to the Northfield Township Food Pantry.

"I wanted the Bluehawks to know how much we appreciate their generosity," said Northfield Township Supervisor Jill A. Brickman. "We are seeing deeper needs than we've ever seen in such a concentrated time and because of donors like you, we're able to provide food to anyone who comes to the pantry looking for help. You're making a big difference."
All through April and May, Bluehawks players created pictures and videos to post on social media thanking essential workers for their service, and asking family, friends, and other followers for donations. The effort was organized by Kelly Curin—a Bluehawks Board member, mother of two players, and herself a nurse. "We're teaching our kids how important it is to volunteer," Curin said. "This fundraiser allowed us to give back to healthcare workers, and provide them with meals during their long and stressful days."
