Northbrook Farmers Market To Open June 16

Northbrook Farmers Market will open its 13th season Wednesday, June 16, with a celebration approximating pre-pandemic festivities, sponsored once again by the market's friends at NorthShore University HealthSystem.

Village President Kathryn Ciesla will do the traditional honors with a brief watermelon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. at "center stage." For precautionary reasons slices will not be handed out to the public. Rather, Ciesla will take a delicious bite or two of the quintessential summer fruit on behalf of all Northbrook residents. She also will introduce the village's new fire chief and other dignitaries.

Of course, returning favorite vendors and some new ones will be set up and at the ready.

Fun programs and events are scheduled throughout the day for all to enjoy.

• NorthShore University HealthSystem will have free handouts and health information at their booth, as usual.
• Live music will be provided by Northbrook's very own Steve Zane.
• Dilly Bars will be handed out courtesy of DQ Grill & Chill, Northbrook, while supplies last.
• Northbrook Pet Nannies will hand out the market's brochure, "Dogs Welcome at the Market", and give mini-lessons on proper doggie-human etiquette at the market.
• Perennial favorite RC Juggles will sculpt amazing balloon creations from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
• Stop by the Welcome Booth, provide your email address, and maybe you'll be the lucky winner of a free prize drawing.
• Also, pick up a butterfly garden seed packet that contains milkweed so you, too, can help save our pollinators. While supplies last.

The market is open 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays through Oct. 13, in the parking lot of Meadow Plaza, Cherry Lane and Meadow Road, downtown Northbrook.
