Northbrook Public Schools Get $600K In Coronavirus Relief Funding

Illinois public school districts will split about $2.25 billion in federal coronavirus relief, according to state officials.

NORTHBROOK, IL — Northbrook's three main public school districts are set to receive more than $600,000 in grants from the second coronavirus-relief package approved last month by federal lawmakers.

That $900 billion relief package included about $2.25 billion for Illinois public school districts, more than four times the amount they received from the first federal relief package, according to Carmen Ayala, the state’s superintendent of education.

Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 is set to receive $256,829, while Northbrook Elementary School District 27 will get $182,101, and Northbrook School District 28 is slated to net $165,423 according to the Illinois State Board of Education.

Ayala and the state board are encouraging districts to spend on their “most urgent needs,” like supplemental learning opportunities, mental health support and closing the digital divide.

Other school districts in the North Shore receiving coronavirus relief funding include: Glenview School District 34 ($1,424,445), Deerfield School District 109 ($209,537) and New Trier Township High School 203 ($352,903).
