Northbrook Resident Delights The Community With New Balloon Display Outside The Library

This installation is also part of a worldwide event called "One Million Bubbles of Joy."

The library's fence has been transformed into a celebration of color and delight

Just over a year since her last balloon display at the library, Barbara returned early this morning to install a new balloon display, bursting with colors, flowers, trees, animals, and insects, including many that kids will enjoy discovering. Can you spot a very hungry caterpillar?

As people stopped by to take photos, the most commonly asked question was "how long did it take to do this?" closely followed by "how many balloons did you use?"

Barbara said she spent about three hours of prep over the last couple of days and She and her friend Kathy arrived at 6:00am this morning and spent about three hours setting it up. She estimates she used at least 800 balloons, including the 50 tiny balloons to make the large sun that is smiling over the display.

"It's time to celebrate," she said. "I want to encourage people to come out and explore and visit the library, which is such a wonderful place to go. I also love bringing smiles to people's faces." She said she was thinking about the classic Little Golden Books as she designed the display.

This installation is also part of a worldwide event called "One Million Bubbles of Joy," which takes place on April 24 & 25. This event was created last year as a way for the balloon community to spread joy during these times by sharing their art with others.

You can find Barbara’s balloon installations in front of the entrance to the library parking lot today at 1201 Cedar Lane. We also encourage you to stop inside and browse the collection. The library is open from 9:00am-2:00pm on Saturday and 1:00-5:00pm on Sunday. See all of the library's open hours.
