Northbrook Teen Killed In Chicago: Homicide Investigation
Miles Thompson, 18, a GBN grad, was found dead Thursday from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Chicago Police Department.

CHICAGO — An 18-year-old Northbrook resident was found dead Thursday morning in the Austin neighborhood, west side of Chicago. Police discovered Miles Thompson unresponsive in an alley at around 7:08 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the chest.
It is unknown when Thompson was shot as Chicago police are conducting a homicide investigation. He was pronounced dead at 7:15 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
A family friend told Patch that Thompson was in Chicago visiting family at the time of his death.

Thompson is survived by parents Laurie and Michael Cooper, of Northbrook, and Marc Thompson, of Chicago, the family friend told Patch. He also has two younger brothers, a younger sister and many friends who loved him and looked up to him.
Thompson was a 2020 graduate of Glenbrook North High School, where he played football and earned a scholarship to play in college at St. Ambrose University (Iowa).

"Miles was the son, the big brother and the friend that we all seek and without him, the whole world is a little less bright" Sonia Anderson, Thompson's step-mother, said in a social media post.
"He was like a big brother to my kids and we are all shattered by his senseless death the day before he turned 19," Kathy Bernreuter, a friend of the family, told Patch.
