Northbrook's Lord & Taylor Closing Due To Company Bankruptcy
Parent company Le Tote filed for Chapter 11 protection Monday citing the coronavirus pandemic.

NORTHBROOK, IL — Le Tote, parent company of popular women's clothing store Lord & Taylor, is the latest national brand to announce major closures. Both Lord & Taylor and Le Tote filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Monday. As a result, 19 Lord & Taylor brick and mortar stores will close, including one at Northbrook Court in Northbrook.
Le Tote acquired Lord & Taylor from Hudson's Bay Company for a reported $99.5 million in 2019. There are currently 38 locations.
Lord & Taylor, established in 1826, is the oldest department store in the United States. It had been temporarily closed since March due to COVID-19 restrictions, but reopened soon after Northbrook Court did at the end of May. The flagship store at the Lord & Taylor Building on Fifth Avenue in New York City operated from 1914-2019.

Le Tote and Lord & Taylor will seek Chapter 11 protection from creditors in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, according to a message to customers.
