Storms Coming During Evening Rush Hour

Wind gusts could reach 50 mph during your ride home.

Showers and storms are expected to begin shortly after 5 p.m. and continue on and off throughout the night in the Chicago area, the National Weather Service shows.

A band of showers and strong thunderstorms continues to maintain strength and move east. As of 5:15 p.m., it does appear that most of the severe thunderstorm activity has moved east into Lake Michigan.

Wind gusts could still reach 50 miles per hour during the strongest portion of the storms, which came to the Chicago area from the northwest.
