Wescott School Construction Begins March 20

District 30’s Educational Capacity Project generates essential classrooms and configures Wescott to return Kindergarten, maintaining our neighborhood school philosophy beginning in the fall of 2021! We are excited to let you know that construction will break ground at Wescott on Saturday, March 20.

The staff at Wescott is thankful for the support of the entire Wescott and District 30 community with this endeavor. Working together, we will manage the challenges that come with a building project and look forward to starting the fall with a fantastic new facility.

All work through the end of the school year will be outside. Work will begin inside the building on June 7th after all students are done for the year.

Construction will kick off with fencing installation on the north side of the building for our classroom addition and on the south-side for our gym addition. The fencing on the building’s south side will impede traffic flow, and the following changes will be implemented when we return from Spring Break to help keep everyone safe:

• No parent traffic in the staff parking lot, except Adventure Campus pickup.
• Kindergarten students are to be dropped off in the morning and picked up in the afternoon in front of the building with all other traffic.
• During the morning drop-off, kindergarten students will wait with supervisors in the gym until the bus has arrived.
• During the afternoon, kindergarten students will be brought into the gym with supervisors and released with other Wescott students starting at 3:10 p.m.
• Bike racks will be available only on the south side of the building.
• Parking will be added to the front loop for staff only. Temporary parking during the day will still be available for parents stopping into the building to pick up materials or pickup and drop off students.
• The sidewalk from Fieldwood to Wescott will be closed to student and parent traffic.

There will also be a new playground installed this summer. Multiple PTO fundraisers have taken place and one is underway to help with funding.
