YMCA Campers Team Up with Glenbrook North Athletes for Color Run

August 9 Event Held During "Hero" Themed Camp Week

Campers from the North Suburban YMCA’s summer day camp teamed up with several Glenbrook North High School athletes to showcase their social responsibility efforts, by participating in the Y’s first “Color Run” race fundraiser. The August 9th event was held during a camp “Hero” themed week and provided an opportunity for NSYMCA campers to be Y heroes themselves.

Participants in the “Color Run” race wore white t-shirts, while the other campers and spectators doused them in multi-colored paint powders during the race.

The NSYMCA provides over $500,000 in subsidized memberships, programs and community services each year. Due to several unplanned emergency capital repairs, completion of the Y’s driveway entrance and exit had to be delayed. However, a generous donor challenged the Y to raise the funds to complete the project with a $50,000 matching grant. The NSYMCA has almost reached their part of the goal, with the campers raising over $1,000 through the color run.

“With character development being an integral part of our summer camp curriculum, and social responsibility a focus, NSYMCA campers did their part to help with a great cause,” said Kathy Fielding, NSYMCA Vice President of Membership, Programs, and Marketing.

“You can tell the kids had so much fun and it’s great for them to learn early in life the importance of supporting a good cause,” commented Peter Bazianos, a Glenbrook North athlete who volunteered. “We had a blast and we were thrilled to be a part of it!”
