YMCA Gymnasts Earn Second Place Team Honors at AAU Midwest Regional Meet

The North Suburban YMCA’s Gymnastics Team completed its season of AAU competition with a successful AAU Regional Midwest Meet in Rockford on May 5 and 6. The Y’s Level 3 gymnasts earned a second place club team award, while the Y’s Level 6 athletes finished in fourth place. Individual achievements included eight regional event championships, and the selection of three gymnasts to the District All-Star Team.

In Level 3 competition, the NSYMCA’s Nicole Brown was the champion on balance beam for the Senior A Division. Champions in Level 3 Senior C included Dani Carr on bars, Ashley Brown on beam, and Cassie Johnston on vault, floor, and all-around. Hannah Bobula earned the top score for bars and beam in the Level 6 Junior A Division. Ashley Brown, Cassie Johnston, and Hannah Bobula each were named to the District All-Star Team.

Teammates Annie Rabenhorst, Anna Vierimaa, and Julia Masloski each placed second in individual events, and Natalie Schneider, Felicia Pace, Veronica Riad, Jenna Freund, and Lauren Stinchcomb achieved personal best scores that contributed to the team’s success.

The Competitive Team is the culmination of the NSYMCA’s progressive developmental program, which starts with preschoolers and offers training through eighth grade. The overall goals of the program are the development of skills, strength and self-confidence in a fun, supportive environment. Participants progress through levels at their own pace with attention given to individual needs. The Competitive Team is led by Head Coach Jenna Norman and Coach Carol Sassorossi.
