Youth Hockey Clubs Raise Funds for Healthcare Heroes

Northbrook Jr. Bluehawks & Bluehawks players created a video asking for donations to send meals to doctors and nurses treating COVID-19

Members of the Northbrook Jr. Bluehawks and Northbrook Bluehawks youth hockey clubs are raising funds to send meals to doctors and nurses treating COVID-19 patients at Glenbrook and St. Bernard Hospitals.

This weekend sixteen of the clubs' 5-to-15-year-old players produced a video to ask for donations. Kelly Curin—a Bluehawks Board member, mother of two players, and herself a nurse—said, "We're teaching our kids how important it is to volunteer. This fundraiser allows us to give back to healthcare workers, and provide them with meals during their long and stressful days."

The goal was to raise $1,000. Curin said they're almost—but not quite yet—there. The fundraiser, which is being coordinated in partnership with GiveInKind, runs through May 1. Excess funds raised will be donated to the Northfield Township Food Pantry.
