Apple Announces New iPad At High School In Roscoe Village
Apple held its first launch event of 2018 at Lane Tech College Prep School on Chicago's North Side.
CHICAGO, IL — Apple CEO Tim Cook traveled to Chicago to unveil the company's new 9.7-inch iPad with Apple Pencil support Tuesday morning. Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Gov. Bruce Rauner attended the event, alongside countless other local leaders, business representatives and tech gurus.
The new iPad, which features a large Retina display and an enhanced ability to sketch, markup and jot down handwritten notes, will start at $329, Apple said; however, schools can purchase the new iPad for $299.
"This iPad also has the power of the A10 Fusion chip, combined with the big, beautiful Retina display, advanced cameras and sensors that enable incredible AR experiences simply not possible on other devices," Apple VP of Product Marketing Greg Jowiak said in a press release.

First introduced for iPad Pro, Apple Pencil has become a popular tool among students, and schools can purchase it for $89 — $10 less than retail, Apple said. The company said advanced sensors will measure pressure and tilt for "pixel-perfect" accuracy with the pencil tool.
The new iPad will also deliver faster cellular data connections, Apple said.
