Chicago Comic Claire Mulaney Lands Job on 'SNL'

The native of Wrigleyville's iO Theater and the Annoyance Theater—which is moving to Lake View—will soon be Saturday Night Live's newest writer.

Saturday Night Live is already beefing up its writing staff for the fall season, and Lake View comic Claire Mulaney has just made the cut.

Mulaney, 25, regularly performs at Wrigleyville’s iO Theater at 3541 N. Clark St. and the Annoyance Theater, which is currently moving to Lake View at 851 W. Belmont Ave. She was also once an intern at Second City.

Now moving into its 39th season this fall, SNL is also home to Mulaney’s brother John, a writer on the show since 2008. He is best known for co-creating the character Stefon on Weekend Update with SNL actor Bill Hader.

Mulaney went to Yale University and performed for the school’s longest-running improv team, The Yale Exit Players, according toSplit Sider. Now she plays at iO’s Harold team Dogs, and is the first known hire for this season of SNL.

Longtime writer, Weekend Update host and Evanston native Seth Meyers will leave at the end of 2013 to take on his new hosting job at Late Night. Tina Fey is also a native of Chicago’s improv scene, moving to SNL as a writer.

Mulaney’s last show at iO will be Aug. 6, according to the Chicago Tribune.
