Child’s Voice Opening Second Location Near Jahn Elementary

The new business hales from Wood Dale, but opening a new location in Roscoe Village is like a land of new opportunities.

Children’s hearing loss specialists Child’s Voice is headed to a vacant storefront in Roscoe Village, setting up shop across from Jahn Elementary School.

The business hails from Wood Dale near Chicago O’Hare International Airport, but according to Director of Advancement Kate Bousum, setting up a storefront in the city is all about making their customers lives easier.

“Our goal is to get the kids ready to mainstream into their neighborhood school systems by 5, 6 or 7, but getting from the city to the suburbs can be really tough,” Bousum said. “Some of our families do drive as much as an hour to an hour and a half for 4-hour services at our site.”

Child’s Voice first opened in 1996 in response to roughly 3 in every 1,000 children being born hard-of-hearing. Bousum says it’s a number higher than that of any other more commonly-recognized issues like spina bifida.

And choosing their new space in Roscoe Village wasn’t tough, Bousum says, calling the neighborhood “fantastic.”

“There’s a lot of factors involved in choosing a new space,” she said. “We wanted to get closer to the city, and this location is so ideal for us from to the interior to the exterior. We’re very excited to be a part of the Roscoe Village neighborhood. We think we found a great fit with the community there.”

The space is undergoing renovations with plans to open in late summer or early fall.
