The Coffee Obsession

Our obsession with coffee has gotten out of hand. Even with health benefits, this is why you should drink coffee in moderation.

Every morning you wake up and the first thing you do is make yourself a cup of coffee. With kids, deadlines, and bills it becomes almost inevitable that you need that caffeine burst to get going. But you’re not the only one. According to National Coffee Association and The Specialty Coffee Association of America, approximately 65% of all coffee is consumed during breakfast hours.

One cup becomes two and before you know it, you can’t function without 5 cups of coffee. But this isn’t healthy. Too much caffeine can result in irritability, nervousness or insomnia, to name a few. Some coffee drinkers would go to extreme lengths for their cup of joe.

Would you give up your cellphone for a month rather than go without coffee? If you said yes, then you are apart of the 49% of coffee drinkers who would go a month phone free.

Would you give anything else up for coffee? Say your hygiene? Approximately 52% of coffee drinkers would rather give up their morning shower then miss their beloved cup of coffee. Does this not seem ridiculous?

How Much Should We Consume?

Well the good news is that coffee isn’t terrible for you, in moderation of course. The recommended amount of coffee for you to consume per day is between 2 and 4 cups- up to 400 milligrams of caffeine.

Out of the approximately 150 million daily coffee drinkers the average amount of cups per day is 3.1. In fact, if you consume equal to or less than the recommended amounts, coffee is actually good for your health.

Although excessive coffee drinking can be bad for your health, with the right amount you can be doing your body good.

  4. It can boost your workout and improve your physical performance
  5. May lower your risk of type 2 diabetes
  6. Can fight depression and make you happier
  7. Large source of antioxidants
  8. May lower risk of Stroke, heart disease, and even some cancers

These are just a few of the benefits that moderate coffee drinking has on the body.
