Lakeview Pantry Offers Federal Workers Help During Shutdown

The North Side organization is offering government employees two weeks' worth of groceries and access to social services.

CHICAGO — As the government shutdown continues, organizations across the country are stepping up to help federal workers. The Lakeview Pantry, one of Chicago's largest and longest-operating food pantries, is offering federal employees two weeks' worth of groceries and access to social services.

The groceries and services will be offered to federal employees regardless of where they live, Lakeview Pantry said. Employees must show their ID.

Around 800,000 federal government workers are furloughed or working without pay. Friday was the first payday for the affected workers without a paycheck.
