Most Interesting Mac n’ Cheese Found on Montrose, Expert Says

One area restaurant made the cut after a mac n' cheese expert (yes, there is such a thing) compiled a list of her favorite and most interesting dishes in Chicago.

When on the hunt for Chicago’s most unique and interesting plates of mac ‘n cheese, look no further than our very own Montrose Avenue.

Mac n’ Cheese expert Kristen Kuchar toured the city for the online foodie publication Eater Chicago and rounded up 14 of the most interesting ways restaurants are serving up the delicious dish.

What makes Kuchar an expert? The Chicago native recently went around the nation with a craving for mac n’ cheese, and then released her first book, Mac 'N Cheese to the Rescue

On her list lands the area favorite Fountainhead. Sitting on the border of North Center and Ravenswood at 1970 W. Montrose Ave, the restaurant snagged fourth place in the big competition.

The winner of “Most Interesting” went to Dimo’s Pizza in Lake View, a restaurant currently building their second location in Bucktown at 1615 N. Damen Ave. They won for having mac n' cheese pizza, a dish that sounds kind of gross, but is something this editor finds absolutely delicious and unique.

Here’s what Kuchar has to say about the the North Side favorite:

Fountainhead

1970 W. Montrose Ave.
“Mac &Cheese” The classic dish gets a sophisticated makeover with smoked gouda, butterkase, duck confit, bacon crumbles and toasted bread crumbs.
