North Center Barber Gives Last Cut After 41 Years, Retires

The local man is now 75 and says it's time to hang up his shears.

Al Soehn says after 41 yeas, he’s finally ready to hang up his shears and close his North Center barbershop.

Magic Razor’s final days at 2211 W. Grace St. was June 29 where 75-year-old Soehn trimmed his last client’s hair.

He’s been working since he was 14-years-old, and now it is time to retire.

"Thinking about it, it's going to be very, very sad," Soehn told DNAinfo Chicago. "It was a big decision. I don't want to walk out with a cane."

"One of the best things about this neighborhood is this barbershop," Soehn later told ABC Chicago reports. "I got the best clientele. The nicest people you can have. I never had an argument with anybody. They're great."

Soehn enjoyed pizza and said goodbye to customers, then turned the lock at Magic Razor for the final time.
