Northcenter Neighbors Waging War Against Rats
Residents on one neighborhood block say they're trying everything to exterminate the problem, but nothing seems to be working.

Chicago’s rat population always spikes during the warm summer months, but for one group of North Center residents, the numbers are starting be overwhelming.
Neighbors living on the 2400 block of West Warner Avenue told CBS 2 they’re a constant patrol for rats, finding them living under their garages, porches and even in their homes.
“In in the middle of the night, I went to the bathroom … and (a rat) ran across my foot,” resident Samantha Cowan told reporter Derrick Blakley.
Patrick Mills of Pest Control Chicagoland said while the city may be baiting the rats with poison, they aren’t eating it because there’s an abundance of food in the city. That includes waste from garbage cans, and even unscooped dog poop.
As for neighbor Mary Lin Grusch, the issue is close to being unbearable.
“We’ve talked about relocating because of the rat problem,” Grusch told CBS 2. “I have family. I have children. I can’t have rats to this extent.”
