U.S. News & World Report Names the 10 Best High Schools in Illinois
The 10 best Illinois high schools in 2015, according to a new U.S. News & World Report ranking.

Out of the 30,000 high schools graded by U.S. News & World Report for its 2015 rankings, 177 in Illinois were ranked among the best in the nation.
The publication awarded each school’s student body a college readiness score out of 100, which measures how well-prepared students are to move on to a higher education setting after graduation. The rest of the ranking is based on the reading and math proficiency of the students, standardized test scores, student-teacher ratios and overall student performance.

Money and labor troubles for the state’s largest school district
The Chicago Teachers Union filed an unfair labor complaint against the city’s board of education last week over a new contract proposal that would increase the amount union workers must contribute toward their pensions. Chicago Public Schools, which faces a $1.1 billion deficit, currently picks up 7 percent of the required 9 percent employee contribution rate. Members of the teachers’ union, who pay the other 2 percent, equate this to a 7 percent pay cut.
