Butler School District 53 Superintendent Announces Retirement
The district hopes to find a replacement for Wennstrom by February 2019.

OAK BROOK, IL — Just as the 2018-19 school year has begun, Butler School District 53 Superintendent Dr. Heidi Wennstrom has announced that she plans to retire when the school year ends. District officials said they have begun looking for a replacement for Wennstrom, who has served as District 53 superintendent for five years.
In a statement, Wennstrom said the choice to retire was a difficult one. “I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside some of the most committed teachers, top-notch administrators and dedicated families during my time here.”
School Board President Dr. Elizabeth Chun called Wennstrom a "great asset to Butler." Chun added that the District 53 school board aims to hire on a replacement for Wennstrom by February 2019. In the meantime, District 53 plans to conduct a "broad, inclusive search" that will "involve community stakeholders."

During her time as superintendent, Wennstrom helped ensure that each student had access to digital devices and was instrumental in improving social media communications and transparency, the news release said. Wennstrom also helped Butler Junior High and Brook Forest Elementary earn the nationally esteemed Blue Ribbon Award.
