Police say they are treating the incident, which took place early Thursday, as a suicide.

LOMBARD, IL -- A man was fatally struck by a freight train in Lombard Thursday morning in what police say they were treating as a suicide. The man, who was in his 50s, was hit by the train around 6 a.m. near the intersection of Crescent Boulevard and Finley Road, Chicago Tribune reports.
The collision halted inbound trains west of the Lombard station and outbound trains were rerouted back to Chicago once they reached Villa Park, according to the Metra UP-W Twitter account early Thursday.
Trains experienced delays for hours and commuters were advised to take alternate routes as investigators responded to the scene.
