McDonald's Property Referendum: Oak Brook Plans Open Houses

OAK BROOK, IL — Oak Brook's most high-profile corporate tenant, McDonald's, relocated to Chicago in June, leaving behind a 34-acre parcel of open land known as the McDonald's Soccer Fields. Oak Brook Park District officials plan to hold public open houses regarding a referendum question on the Nov. 6 ballot that asks voters whether the park district should issue a bond to purchase and repurpose the land.

At the open houses, the first of which will be held on Sept. 12, Oak Brook residents will be able to review a presentation of the referendum question plan. There will also be time for residents to give feedback and ask questions.

The McDonald's Soccer Fields referendum question seeks voter input on whether the Park District "should issue $17.9 million in general obligation bonds to purchase the 34-acres of open space at Jorie Boulevard and Kensington Road commonly known as the 'McDonalds Soccer Fields,'" according to a press release.

If the referendum question passes and the bonds are issued, the Park District would have 20 years to repay them. Oak Brook Park District officials will be on hand at each of the open houses, which will be held at the park district's Family Recreation Center.
