Men Hide In Dumpster After Robbing Two At Yorktown Mall: Cops

LOMBARD, IL --- Three men were found hiding in a dumpster outside a strip mall after they allegedly stole a cellphone from a man's hand and grabbed a purse from a 78-year-old woman at Yorktown Mall Wednesday afternoon. A fourth man was allegedly found standing next to the dumpster. Police arrested Shaheer Muhammad, 19, Lezzerick Webster, 24, Trentiss McClinton, 23, and Dewayne Powell, 22, all of Chicago were charged with felony counts of robbery in connection with the incident.

According to police, one of the accused men bumped into a man who was on his cellphone and then stole the phone. Police say the same man then "forcibly" took a purse from a 78-year-old female.

The four men then allegedly got into a car and fled to a strip mall in Oak Brook, where police say they abandoned the car. Lombard police say they later found the defendants hiding in and near a dumpster outside of a Nordstrom Rack store in a strip mall in Oak Brook.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin praised the work of responding police officers and said, "With the holiday shopping season quickly approaching, I want to assure DuPage County residents and visitors that law enforcement will do everything in our power to keep our stores, restaurants and malls safe for everyone to enjoy the holiday season. Likewise, I urge everyone to be aware of your surroundings while shopping. If you see something suspicious, alert security or staff at the establishment."

Muhammad and McClinton are set to appear in court on Dec. 5 and Webster and Powell are set to appear in court on Dec. 6.
