Oak Brook Approves 22-Story Luxury Condos

The village council approved the structure by a 4-3 vote.

OAK BROOK, IL --- The village of Oak Brook has approved a 22-story condominium building to be built near Oakbrook Center Wednesday. The measure passed by a 4-3 vote, with village president Gopal Lalmalani casting the deciding vote, Chicago Tribune reports.

According to a press release, Lalmalani called the development, known as the Butler, "exactly what Oak Brook needs." Lalmalani said, “We worked with the developer and the community to preserve our heritage while simultaneously embracing this prestigious development.”

The Butler, which will house 90 luxury condos, is projected to bring an "amenity-rich environment typically found in Chicago's Gold Coast" to 1900 Spring Road.

Trustee Mike Manzo said, "Oak Brook is at a pivotal juncture in our history and we have just sent a strong message to the residents of Oak Brook that we welcome high-end luxury developments that are consistent with the Oak Brook brand."

The $100 million development is projected to bring more than $100,000 in sales tax revenue, according to a press release.
