Oak Brook Hosts Final Referendum Open House
Voters can learn more about the referendum proposal before they head to the polls on Election Day.

OAK BROOK, IL --- The Oak Brook Park District will host the final open house on an upcoming referendum that could decide the fate of the 34-acre McDonald's Soccer Fields. The forum will be held on Nov. 5 in the Family Recreation Center at 1450 Forest Gate Rd.
The referendum question inquires whether the park district should issue $17.9 million in bonds to purchase the parcel of land, which is located at near the intersection of Kensington Road and Jorie Boulevard, and develop it into green space for the community. If issued the bonds would have to be paid over a period of 20 years.
The issue of what to do with the land at McDonald's Soccer Fields came into question after the fast food giant relocated its headquarters to Chicago. Officials say that if the referendum isn't approved, the land will likely be used by developers to build multi-family residences.
