Oak Brook Polo Defeats G-Squared to Win 2019 Oak Brook Polo Open
The Chicago Polo 8-Goal League Tournament Kicked Off on Wednesday, July 10th
The Oak Brook Polo Open presented by Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse held it’s championship match on Sunday, July 14thbetween Hinsdale Living Oak Brook and G-Squared. The Chicago Polo 8-Goal League tournament kicked off on Wednesday, July 10th with matches taking place through Friday and featured five participating teams: Font Family Farm, G-Squared, Morgan Creek, Oak Brook, andPassion for Polo. Both G-Squared and Oak Brook went undefeated in their preliminary matches before meeting in the final match at the Prince of Wales Field in Oak Brook, Illinois.
G-Squared’s Team was comprised of Larry Aschebrook (Hcap 0), Chris Vangel (Hcap 1), Matias Obregon (Hcap 4) and Juan Martin Gutierrez (Hcap 2). Oak Brook’s team included Gracie Mudra (Hcap -1), Horacio Onetto (Hcap 4), Tomas Obregon (Hcap 4), and Jim Drury (Hcap 0).
Opening festivities for the match featured a team parade with a Rolls Royce and two Bentley convertibles from Perillo Downers Grove. Vehicle passengers were anthem singer Megan Styrna from Geneva, Illinois followed by Hinsdale Living Magazine cover girls Julie Bouchard (July) and Courtney Casey (June). The Culver Academy’s Mounted Color Guard from Culver, Indiana followed from behind.

The match got off to fast start with Oak Brook’s Onetto, putting up two back-to-back goals before G-Squared’s, Gutierrez, closed the first chukker with one of their own to make the score 2-1. G-Squared’s, Obregon, would start the second chukker with a goal to tie the match 2-2 before Oak Brook’s Onetto, would answer back with to two straight goals. G-Squared’s Vangel closed in on Oak Brook’s lead back to one with a goal. In the third chukker, Oak Brook scored two more goals by Onetto and Obregon and held G-Squared scoreless to end the first half, 6-3, Oak Brook.
After a fun and entertaining halftime Divot Stomp presented by J Vineyard & Winery, the fourth chukker got underway. Oak Brook scored five goals to give Oak Brook an 11-3 lead. Onetto would score four and Obregon would score one. In the fifth chukker, G-Squared’s Obregon scored the team’s only goal before his brother, Tomas, would score to keep Oak Brook in the lead by eight.

The Hinsdale Living “Best Hat Contest” was awarded to Keisha Chancellor before going into the sixth and final chukker. G-Squared wen on a three-goal run to keep Oak Brook scoreless. Two goals were score by Vangel and one by Obregon. The final score, 12-7, Oak Brook.
During the awards ceremony, the Heineken “Best Tailgate” title went to Nancy and Melissa Lehmann, whose inflatable ponies helped secure their win. Runner-Up trophies were presented to G-Squared by Cesar Marin of Perillo Downers Grove. Champion trophies were presented to Oak Brook’s team by John Conaster, President & CEO of JWC Media. The match’s Casablanca Polo “MVP” went to Horacio Onetto, presented by “Best Hat” contest winner Keisha Chancellor. Casablanca Polo “Best Playing Pony” went to Bombona, owned by Tomas Obregon, presented by Julie Bouchard.
Oak Brook’s next match is the R.R. McCormick Cupagainst Morgan Creek for Sunday, July 28that 3:00 PM. The match will also present the Illinois Jaguar Club’s 50thAnniversary Concours d’Elegance where 50 to 75 new and vintage Jaguars will be on display to compete for national rankings.
