OAK BROOK, IL – The Sears store at Oakbrook Center will close Sunday. The 62,000-square-foot store reopened about seven months ago after a 13-month remodeling and downsizing project at the location. The store first opened at the Oakbrook Center about 60 years ago, according to The Doings Oak Brook.
The decision not to renew the lease on the Oak Brook store was part of Sears Holdings' bankruptcy proceedings, according to the article. Store associates who qualify will be able to receive severance and apply for open positions at area Kmart and Sears stores.
Liquidation sales at the Oakbrook Center store started Monday, The Doings reported.
