Popular Oak Brook Irish Shop Celebrates ‘17 Lucky Days’ in March
At the heart of Murray's Irish Outfitters' promotion that runs through St. Patrick's Day: rewarding shoppers & supporting a local charity
Under the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic for the second year in a row, there will be no St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Chicago or other suburbs that mark the holiday with a parade and other festivities.
But in the estimation of Murray’s Irish Outfitters in Oak Brook, there is still plenty of cause for celebration. In that spirit, owners Kathleen Murray Devitt and Roger Devitt have launched “17 Lucky Days” of savings that will culminate on St. Patrick’s Day.
Each day, while offering a 17-percent discount, they spotlight an item in their shop at the Oak Brook Promenade (3021 Butterfield Road, Suite 102) and online at www.murraysirishoutfitters.com. At the end of the 17-day period, the Devitts are donating a portion of the sales generated from those items to an organization that they have previously been supporting: Bags of Hope Chicago.

Bags of Hope Chicago is a grassroots entity that feeds people in and around Chicago who are experiencing homelessness. Like the Devitts, Bags of Hope is led by a husband-and-wife team, Attila and Kim Cseh.
“We feel lucky to have been in business for nearly 25 years, so this is our way of paying that good fortune forward,” says Kathleen Devitt. “There are precious few family-owned shops, and we are grateful to our loyal customers who have been so supportive, especially this past year.”

Each day, through its Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/murraysirish_outfitters/) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/irishoutfitters) pages, the shop is previewing the next day’s Lucky item.
On March 1st, exactly a month before Opening Day for the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox, baseball hats were the first of the Lucky discounted items. Other Lucky Day merchandise will be drawn from the shop’s comprehensive array of offerings, including clothing for men and women, Irish jewelry, great gift items, and children’s clothing.
Since its 1997 opening, the shop has steadily built a strong customer following that extends beyond the area and even to other states. A key draw is the complete Irish shopping experience offered by Murray’s Irish Outfitters.
Indeed, through annual buying excursions to Ireland that they have made for more than two decades, the Devitts’ tagline brims with authenticity: “We bring Ireland to you!”
The shop’s regional renown has proven vital as Murray’s Irish Outfitters has weathered the challenge of operating amid the social-distancing requirements brought on by COVID-19.
“Like so many retail businesses, it hasn’t been easy, but we are getting through this time together,” notes Roger Devitt. “We are committed to being here for our customers.”
Murray’s Irish Outfitters ensures safe shopping by limiting customers to a maximum of 10 at any given time. In addition, by prior appointment, concierge service accommodations outside of regular hours are available for those who prefer to shop alone.
Murray’s Irish Outfitters has been in business locally since 1997 and moved to the Oak Brook Promenade in 2008.
The Promenade is a vibrant, high quality specialty retail and dining lifestyle center. It is anchored by nationally renowned tenants featuring fine clothiers, jewelers, financial services, home furnishings, as well as casual and fine dining restaurants. Online: https://www.oakbrookpromenade.com/
