Redevelopment of McDonald's Plaza In Oak Brook In The Works

The "new village center" would include high-rises, retail spaces, hotels, and more.

OAK BROOK, IL — McDonald's may have vacated its 74-acre campus in Oak Brook, but developers aren't wasting any time brainstorming ways to revamp the location. Hines, a developer known for its high-rise buildings and skyscrapers, is petitioning the village to repurpose McDonald's plaza with hotels, upscale condos, and retail stores, Chicago Tribune reports.

At the moment, Hines is waiting on zoning approval from the village before moving forward with its proposal, though the fast food behemoth did confirm the deal, according to Chicago Tribune.

McDonald's moved its headquarters to Chicago in June, leaving its 327,600 square foot office vacant. Hines hopes to tear down the building.
