RockSugar Southeast Asian Kitchen Opens In Oak Brook

Think BBQ ribs glazed with chili-caramel sauce and warm coconut doughnuts drizzled with syrup.

OAK BROOK, IL — Oak Brook residents can sample traditional fare from Vietnamese, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia at RockSugar Southeast Asian Kitchen, which officially opened Wednesday. Oak Brook is only the second location for RockSugar, which has its flagship restaurant in LA's Century City.

RockSugar is the brainchild of David Overton, restaurateur behind The Cheesecake Factory restaurants, and chef Mohan Ismail, a Singapore native who honed his craft in New York. The pair comes together to create an extensive menu that spotlights authentic dishes that are beloved in South Asia.

For appetizers, diners can start with fresh Vietnamese summer rolls or Indian stuffed flatbread, which comes in vegetarian-friendly options. The inventive entrees span the map as well. There's Singapore Hainan pork, red curried shrimp, Malaysian salmon, and Thai whole fish fried to a satisfying crisp.

The menu also features plenty of vegetarian options. Those who don't eat meat can savor stir-fried brussels sprouts, spicy cauliflower blended with Indian tomato curry, and more.

RockSugar Kitchen's desserts are made in-house and can be paired with an apres-meal pot of artisanal tea that's available in several blends.
